All processes of creating Ashes into Glass Memorials are carried out at our studio at Barleylands Glassworks. The ashes never leave our premises. All ashes are different in particle size and colour. Do not worry about this, we have a process to deal with it and can work with all ashes.
Our “Hot” workshop is equipped with a furnace to melt the clear crystal glass, kilns for firing the glass and gas torches for the more intricate work as well as traditional glassmaking tools. Our "cold" workshop has lathes and diamond tools for cutting the paperweights and polishing belts and small tools for polishing the stones. We also have Jewellery finishing and engraving tools.
The creation of Ashes into Glass memorials is skilled work. They are produced with layers of clear molten glass, your loved one’s ashes and coloured crystals at a temperatures of 1100C. Once finished, the glass cools slowly for 18 hours.
The glass is then taken to the “Cold Shop”, where the glass finishing work is done. The base of the Memorial Paperweights are cut and polished in preparation for your engraving and Cremation Crystals are cut and polished ready for toughening.
Ashes into Glass jewellery is designed by ourselves. We have gold and silver fittings produced for us by precious metals casters but do all the mounting, finishing and engraving here. Your jewellery will bear either the 925 Sterling Silver or the 9ct Gold hallmark ensuring the quality of the metal. It will also bear our own exclusive hallmark “ASHES”. This is our Maker’s Mark and it ensures you of the finest jewellery.
